A Healing Touch: Stories of life, death, and hospice

Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Richard Russo and five other Maine authors here prove the
close of life need not be filled with darkness, when hospice help is at hand. These writers recount end-of-life moments that cover a wide spectrum of human experience, from the man who smashed every dish in his house to the musician who treated one dying woman to the Beach Boys tune “Barbara Ann.” The book includes intensely personal and profoundly moving accounts by Russo, Gerry Boyle, Wesley McNair, Bill Roorbach, Susan Sterling, and Monica Wood, all of whom are donating their royalties to hospice. Down East will also donate 10 percent of proceeds to the same cause.
In an article, 'Mankind is Our Buisness' Author: Richard Russo, explains where the Pulitzer Prize-Winning writer is one of six of Maines finest writers are working for hospice. Why it is a writer's call to be giving back.

A Book About Family from Debut Author
An adventure story that takes place in Nova Scotia in the 1940s, this book is woven around the lives of simple people, their superstitious beliefs, and old-fashioned family values. Readers will encounter Old Maude, a disfigured and much maligned and misunderstood Micmac medicine woman who lives in an abandoned gold mine, as well as lumberjacks, hobos, and several village children whose adventures lead them to Maude and an eventual understanding of her healing powers.

ROSEMARIE NERVELLE grew up in a small Nova Scotia mining town, and draws on her own experiences and mixed ethnic heritage for this story. Her poems have been published in the Village Voice and the Goose River Anthology. This is her first book. Rosemarie lives in Camden, Maine, for most of the year, with summer sojourns in Nova Scotia.
